Abstract

The authors have analyzed morbidity, dynamics of physical and psychomotor development (PMD) of 152 children at the first year of life with the body weight of 1500 gr. It has been found that children born with very low body weight at the first year of life may have specific features of growth and development. In this connection it is necessary to redo and optimize the existing standards of ambulatory – polyclinic observation of children of such category, to work out standards for conditionally healthy children, to introduce a notion “corrected age” and estimation scales into daily practice of pediatricians and neurologists in order to obtain more objective evaluation of PMD. Taking into consideration morbidity, the ambulatory observation of small premature infants should be prolonged and take place in specialized multi-field clinic with real possibility for proper hospitalization.

Key words

small premature newborns, morbidity, physical development, psychomotor development.
